Back to basics - how do I write 'custom logic' in WL 9? For example, create a strategy comparing average daily percentage price increase or loss for shares using linear regression of the last 20 days etc.

I see the indicators do not include linear regression now.

That sounds like a simple Rotation strategy (New Strategy > Rotation), but you could also give the AI Strategy Generator a shot at it:

And, if you need that as a Condition in Blocks, see Building BLocks > Conditions > Symbol Ranking by Indicator.

Search for it with the Filter -

Thanks Cone. No way can I create a strategy thus hoping I can manage it with AI. Attached screenshot mentions 'Load data'?

You'll need to enable a data provider that can deliver the data you're trying to backtest. Watch this WL University video about data...

Definitely watch the WL U. videos ^^^

But for this you're just a step away. Strategy Settings tab (hit F1 for help) > Portfolio Mode > select the DataSet > Run Backtest.

Also, for easily configurable options, you'd be better served by using a Rotation Strategy. New Strategy > Rotation, strike F1 for help with the settings.

Thanks Cone. It all sounds too complicated. I will have to give it a miss as I do not want to waste your valuable time. Regards Ian. PS I hope WL8 continues as I can manually get information from it via the charts.

Rotation strategies can't be simpler. You only have to choose the indicator and run it.

All v8 licenses work for v9. The only reason I can think of not to upgrade is because you're using one of the finantic extensions that isn't available yet. You can continue to use it, but WL8 won't get updates forever.

Hi Cone you mentioned it could not be simpler via rotation and indicator. I will give it another go on the simplest format attached. What will be the end result? I thought the Norgate data was loaded on the left eg S&P ASX 50. My eventual aim is to write my own indicators with expected outcomes and variables to show which is the best path to buy or sell stocks.

Click the Settings tab, the first tab in the strategy window. This is where you specify whether you want to backtest on a single symbol, or a portfolio. Select the portfolio, then select the desired DataSet from the dropdown. You can set all kinds of other things there like the time frame you want to backtest.
